IN THE FLAME WE REVEAL OURSELVES
-
Rendered solely through music and image, In The Flame We Reveal Ourselves is a musical documentary essay in four parts, about climate anxiety and resistance. The interplay of music (by musical collaborators, Afterlands), and visual storytelling explores our profound desire to protect the beauty and fragility of our environment while paradoxically allowing its destruction.
A woman in a red dress traverses an island. Her symbolic journey is not only through a physical landscape, but through layers of time, myth and history. Through the Director's eco-feminist lens we witness her embodied performance, as she embraces the power and beauty of nature while confronting evidence of human destruction. Through seeking and finding connection with others, she summons the will to resist: ‘we can’t let this go without a fight’.
The documentary essay invites the audience to consider the intricate connections between land, history, and gender and to recognise that in the flames of destruction, we must collectively find the embers of hope.
